Yinson Renewables MoP lays a strong foundation for lasting partnership
Yinson Renewables and Rangitāne o Tamaki nui-ā-Rua have formalised nearly five years of engagement with a Memorandum of Partnership (“MoP”), signed at Mākirikiri Marae near Dannevirke on 22 October 2026. The signing marks an important milestone in the relationship between both parties.
The agreement is between Te Whare Taiao o Rangitāne Limited, the cultural and environmental arm and wholly owned subsidiary of Rangitāne o Tamaki nui-ā-Rua Charitable Trust, and Pahiatua Wind Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Yinson Renewables (NZ) Limited and the company behind the proposed Pahiatua Wind Farm.
The MoP lays a strong foundation for an enduring partnership as the proposed Pahiatua Wind Farm progresses through its planning phase. It sets out how the partners will engage, share information and work through cultural and environmental matters across design, construction and operation, should the project proceed. It also provides a basis for open dialogue, clear responsibilities and an enduring relationship throughout the project’s development and, should it proceed, its construction and operation.
The MoP reflects a shared focus on collaboration, respect and creating positive outcomes for people, whenua (land) and taiao (environment).
The day began with a pōhiri (traditional welcome), followed by speeches, the signing and shared kai (food). Students from Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Tamaki Nui A Rua sang waiata (songs) to celebrate the occasion, and the gathering gave the partners a chance to look ahead to what the partnership could achieve for generations to come.
The partnership recognises the importance of caring for natural resources so they can support people today without compromising their integrity for future generations. For Yinson Renewables, early and meaningful engagement with iwi is an important part of developing renewable energy projects responsibly. The proposed Pahiatua Wind Farm remains in the planning phase and is subject to a final investment decision before proceeding to construction.
